I hope this email finds you well and gearing up for another school year. It is safe to say that these past many months have brought many challenges. I hope you have been able to see blessings and graces too, even through times of struggle.
I wanted to reach out to all of you with news and information regarding religious education at St. Joseph-St. Pius X this year! We are going to be running our religious education program this year! While some aspects may be quite different than previous years, we do hope that your family will join us and grow in faith and love in our community.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and under guidance from the diocesan Office of Religious Education, we will be offering our religious education program in a hybrid format to start off the year. While I realize that this is not the ideal for anyone, we are hopeful that our children and families will still be able to learn and grow in faith while staying safe and healthy.
Attached to this email, you will find a link to the Google Form for Religious Education Registration for 2020-2021
. You will also find a tentative calendar
for the year ahead. The year will begin with classes starting on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
The cost of registration this year is $50.00 per child (with a family maximum of $140). Please let me know if cost is an issue for your family. Payment can be brought with you to material pick up on Sept. 27.
Some notable changes include that classes for grades K-1 and 3-5 will NOT meet on a weekly basis in person. Instead of weekly class meetings in person, families will receive materials for at home learning. If you choose for your child to do this independently, this work can be completed at home on your own time. If you would prefer for your child to connect with their friends and catechist in our program, families will be given information about how to connect virtually on Sunday mornings.
For students preparing to receive First Penance and First Eucharist, we will be holding in person sessions on Sunday mornings (10:15-11:15 am). If your child is in 2nd grade, please register your son/daughter and more information about these classes will be provided. Masks will be worn, and appropriate cleaning and social distancing measures will be practiced.
For our middle and high school students, we will be offering at-home learning opportunities, as well as regular service project work in person. A specific schedule will be provided for those who register with information on when and where the service opportunities will be taking place. Information about Confirmation preparation will be forthcoming as well for those who register. As in previous years, we anticipate the celebration of Confirmation to take place some time in May 2021.
We look very forward to welcoming back families together at grade level masses throughout the year. Father Rob will be doing an additional mass each weekend for a specific group of students and their families. These are noted on the attached calendar. It is our hope that these will serve as a great opportunity to worship and learn together.
You will notice that the first item on the calendar is Sunday, September 27 for Material Pick-up. Upon receiving your registration form digitally, you will receive an email from me with grade level/family specific information, along with a time for your family to come to St. Joseph's campus to collect the materials for your family.
While we certainly understand that these are challenging and uncertain times, we hope that all families will join us for a new year of learning and faith formation!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Peace and grace,
